CT Earth Day Scholarship Contest Winners!
“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.” – Robert Swan
The Junkluggers loves lending a helping hand to our community members when they need their homes cleaned, however, sometimes we need help too! That’s why we reached out to the bright minds of our future in high school and middle school students across Connecticut to see who could help us tackle one of the biggest threats to our precious Earth – reusable items being sent to landfills.
Students were challenged to conjure up creative ways to help keep reusable items out of landfills, and oh, did they deliver! Submissions filled up our inboxes with countless ideas and creations and we’re incredibly grateful for everyone’s enthusiastic participation in this contest.
Although challenging, we narrowed down our winners to one middle school student and one high school student, and we are so excited to announce their success! These students presented creative and effective ways to keep our Earth clean. One student presented an incredible video entry that captivated our team, and the other made an informational presentation that stressed the impacts of landfills across land and sea.
Drum roll please… Congratulations to John Guarino & Abby Jones of Haddam Killingworth High School and Nithik Uppara Allabanda of CREC Academy of Computer Science and Engineering Middle School! These students presented the most informative and creative projects with outstanding ways to keep reusable items out of landfills. We are so happy to spread awareness about toxic practices and promote ways that we can all make a difference. These students will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship for their passion of keeping our Earth clean. Congratulations John, Abby, and Nithik, we are so proud of you! You are the epitome of our tagline, “Saving the World, One Lug at a Time!”
